DIY #3 How to decorate scallop shells?

 Hello again decorating fans!

Today we're meeting again for a new DIY! Always inspired by the approaching good weather I decided to share with you how to reuse scallop shells. I'm showing you 2 DIY's in one, you are lucky today!

Here we go ...

Materials

You will need :

DIY #1

  • a scallop shell
  • white paint
  • gold leaf
  • glue
  • a paintbrush

DIY #2

  • a scallop shell
  • white paint
  • pearl effect paint
  • 5 tea lights
  • a silver sharpie pen

Decorating tips

DIY #1

  • Gold leaf is an extra, you don't have to use it of course. I chose gold leaf because all my jewellery is gold. If your jewels are silver I advise you to add silver leaves instead. It will be a perfect match for your jewellery!
  • I use this creation as a jewellery container, but who's stopping you from using it to put whatever you want inside. Certainly not me. For smokers, for example, it can make a very nice ashtray. What do you think of it?

DIY #2

  • You can put glitter, gold leaf or dried flowers inside your shell.
  • I made one candle with the equivalent of 2 tealights and another with 3. It's up to you if you prefer more or less wax. Note that one shell cannot contain more than 3 candles.

DIY #1 (in only two steps, I'm getting better!)

Step 1

After cleaning your shells you will paint the whole shell white. The inside, then the outside!

Because this shell does not look very clean...

Step 2

A little trick to make the paint dry faster for the impatient, come and cheat with a hair dryer!

Once the paint is dry you simply put glue where you want to put the gold leaves.

For my part I chose to put some around the shell. Then place the gold leaves with a brush or tweezers. Beware of sensitive souls, this step is quite long and you need to be very patient!

And here is a wonderful jewellery container, simple!

DIY #2

Step 1

For this DIY (after cleaning the shells, of course) come and paint the inside of your shell white (as for the first one in fact).

Step 2

For the first shell you will only paint the inside with pearl paint.

It's really not that complicated 😉

For the second one you'll draw around the shell with your silver sharpie.

A bit like with the gold leaf (but 100 times faster 😅).

Step 3

Glue candle wicks to the bottom of your shell, which you have previously removed from your small tealights.

Step 4

Melt the candles (having removed the wick and the iron piece of course!) in a saucepan over low heat. Once melted, simply pour the wax into the shells. Be careful, they will move, so place them so that they do not move!

Remember also that the wick should not be covered by the wax.

Once cooled down you have beautiful candles!

And here is the result!I hope this tutorial has brought you some reading time, or some minutes or hours of manual work!
